Race Across America
This is the second design for Stephen Auerbach's Race Across America documentary. The first design can be seen in the Old Designs section. He wanted the site to look like the Bicycle Dreams site to give the two sites a sense of continuity.

Jordan L Hahn
Jordan wanted a portfolio site because it's always a good idea to have a site with headshots in the film/television industries. His primary interests are carpentry and general construction, but would be interested in an on screen position. We brainstormed a little and I asked him a lot of questions and ultimately we decided that simple was the best bet.

Caitlin Brandes
Caitlin wanted to add her artwork as a background image on her site, but was concerned that there wouldn't be a photo of her on the front page. We came up with this desgin as a solution. I like it I think it's simple and gives her an oppurtunity to use some of the pictures that she deemed too silly from her headshot shoots.

thirtysevenrobots
This redesign happened pretty quickly after the intial design. I made the first site for my New Media class in college. I didn't really like it after I got about half way through coding it, but since it was for a class I didn't want to start over.
While doing some research on my website's first version, I found out about modal windows and thought that'd be really cool for thirtysevenrobots. That is the main element this entire design works around. At the time I must have been pretty fascinated with srollbars inside of boxes.

Bicycle Dreams
This is one of the first paying gigs I got in Los Angeles. Stephen Auerbach originally hired me to do some changes to his company site, but then asked about a full site for his documentary. This site would've been much easier to make using HTML5 or possibly Flash, but I eventually got it to look exactly like he wanted it. I continue to maintain it for him. I feel like I had a much better design using the first poster image, but when he changed the poster he described this concept.

Old Designs
Jon Merchen: Version 2
I did this after deciding that I wanted to more clean and professional look for my site. I still wanted to keep it fun, so I used a PHP script to randomize the colors and background images. The main thing I don't like about the design is the box element.

Race Across America: Original Concept
I wanted to try a one page design, and I fully realized it for Stephen Auerbach's movie Race Across America. He had me a do a redesign, so that the site looked like the Bicycle Dreams site. I was disappointed, but I understand why he wanted it done.
The site used a JavaScript to reveal, and hide, the information on the page. Each of the cyclists bio's would slide out from the photo and the two reviews have links that pull down the rest of the review. This design is probably the one I'm most proud of and it's unfortunately not being used.

Caitlin Brandes: Original Site
I mocked up some stuff using Caitlin's favorite color and I thought it looked pretty good, but she didn't like it at all. She pitched this idea and was ultimately right. I still think this particular design is one of the best things I've done.

Jon Merchen: Version 1
This is the old version of Jon Merchen DOT com. I made this after redesigning the thirtysevenrobots page and wanted to learn about layers in CSS using the Z-Index attribute. It was fun to make and I did learn a lot which was the point, but I don't think it looked very professional.

thirtysevenrobots: Original Site
I made this for my New Media class in my last year of college. It was done entirely with tables and was the first time I really did any web design since I learned HTML at a nerd summer camp in the mid '90s.
Even though when I look at it now I am shocked with how big everything is and how much I don't like it, I was very proud the homemade flash player I made for our movies. I even won an award for it at the end of year ceremony held by my college.
